I'm Wonder Wife.
This is Super Husband.
Together we are about to embark on our international adventure.
First stop: Beijing, China.
Maybe I should backtrack, give a little information...
Let us introduce ourselves again, with a little more attention to detail this time.
I'm Wonder Wife. Elder of two daughters, born and raised in Texas except for two years spent in Jakarta, Indonesia. I enjoy reading, writing (I hate 'rithmetic, so no alliteration for you), cooking, and traveling, among other things.
He's Super Husband. Third of four children, born and raised in Central Mexico, until age 11 when he and his family emigrated to Houston. He enjoys reading, video games, eating what I cook, and we really hope he enjoys traveling because if not, this is going to be a long year.
We were high school sweethearts. Now we're lifetime sweethearts.
Feel free to gag, but I'm in a saccharine mood.
We are moving to Beijing, China for a year on August 28th, 2012.
I'd love to say that our bags are packed and we're ready to go, but it would be a lie of astronomical proportions.
Nothing is packed. And I don't know if we'll ever really be ready to go.
But we have e-tickets.
And that's a start.
So, the back story on what may strike some as a whimsical move around the world is this:
Super Husband is majoring in Mandarin at The University of Houston.
He was awarded The Chinese Ministry of Education's Study Abroad Scholarship. Room, board, classes, and a monthly stipend, all provided for by the aforementioned entity. Pretty snazzy, right?
We're pretty much over the moon.
I, Wonder Wife, speak no Mandarin (apart from xiexie = thank you), and do not have room, board, or a monthly stipend. But if you think that's gonna stop me, well, you've got another think coming.
I spent a large part of yesterday scouring the web for reputable job listings
for English teachers in Beijing.
I woke up to 14 e-mails from interested schools.
So, I spent a large part of this morning doing small, seated dances, and replying.
We'll be leaving our two beautiful dogs in the care of Super Husband's father.
We're not particularly ecstatic about that part.
Super Husband would like to experiment with the idea of a vlog.
For the uninitiated, a vlog is a Video Blog.
The only impediment to this undertaking is our camera equipment. I have a lovely point and shoot that I bought at Target a few months ago. It's nothing special. It does its job. But high res video isn't its job. So, if we do end up vlogging occasionally I'm going to preempt any complaints by saying
"I don't have good camera equipment, and I'm not going to buy any."
Of course, my stance on this is subject to change.
